[February 2022 version] Summary of SEO news and trends held in January

Meta, which operates Instagram, joins the serviceIntroducing AvatarIt seems to do. It is said that avatars that can be set on Facebook and Messenger will be synchronized on multiple platforms.

It feels like the Metaverse is slowly progressing. I'm excited.

Let's get to this month's SEO news.

Does the "out of stock" status adversely affect the ranking on the EC site?

On Twitter, one person asked John Mueller a question.

Does inventory status affect rankings? I was out of stock for about 3 weeks, but the page that was displayed in 1st place fell to 9th place.

John Mueller

At least I don't think it matters. But I don't know how Google's shipping search works.

is what they said.

Before and after John answered, various people expressed their opinions,

Although there is no direct relationship, there were comments such as "Did you throw the software 404 page?" And "What is the effect of reducing the user's staying time when it is out of stock?"

I thought that the approach to it was more relevant than the lack of stock.

Rather than simply saying "I'm sorry! Out of stock!", "The next arrival is expected to be around the month" and "It will arrive in the middle of next month, there are other products like this." I thought that it was important to have conductors and ingenuity that would not leave.

PC version of Page Experience Update begins

Since June of last year, we introduced Core Web Vital to the mobile version as a page experience signal. In November of the same year, it was announced that it would be introduced to the PC version as well.

At the time of writing, there is no announcement until a specific date, but considering the period of the mobile version, I think that if it starts in February, it will end from the end of March to the beginning of April.

Here is a summary of the main points about the page experience update.

  • Signals, like mobile, have no core web vitals (LCP, CLS, FID), HTTPS, or annoying interstitial
  • It doesn't have that much effect as a ranking factor (as you can see from the results of the mobile version, it can be said that it does not have such a big effect, good or bad. It is not unnecessary, but it is better not to expect too much here. am.)
  • Experience reports will be available in the search console

It's not very effective, so I think it's a good idea to devote resources to it, but be prepared to handle it as much as possible.

▼ At our companyWhat to do about core web vitalsAs, please have a look at various articles posted.

Gary "We should provide more details on the core update!"

There's a regular podcast called Search Off the Record, where John Mueller, Gary Iljesh, and Martin Split tell the story behind Google.

Gary said, "If you're announcing the implementation of a core update, you should provide more information. If you can't give details, isn't the announcement meaningful in the first place?"

▼ The actual remark isArticle by Kenichi SuzukiMore excerpt

"When we're doing a core update, our team usually knows what we're doing, and more specifically what the elements of the core update are doing, but most of the time. Just tells you to focus on the guidelines that have been published for 20 years-basically, write good content, don't buy links, and so on. Every time I carry out a core update, I basically say, "Focus on the guidelines," and that is also advice.

If you just say, "If you're affected by a core update or want to know more about core updates, check out our guidelines for webmasters, or check out this blog post based on these guidelines," why core? Will we publish an update?

Obviously there was an update (even without the announcement). If I can't elaborate, I don't see the benefits of communicating about core updates. "

On the other hand, John

  • The core update announcement has the purpose of informing those who are aware of the change.
  • The announcement also has the meaning of telling you that the core update isn't about shuffling search results.
  • Some people accept that they haven't done the wrong thing by making an announcement.

Said.

As an SEO person, I have high expectations, but it seems that the team in charge does not have such an idea so far ...

However, since SEO also has a trend, in terms of returning to the origin, I think that the announcement that "there is a core update" is a good opportunity to review my prototype.

Introduced new robots tag "indexifembedded"

Introduced by Google "indexifembedded " Tags are on pages embedded with iframes, etc. noindex Is set, but it tells Google to index it as the content of the embedded page.

The page that publishes the contentI don't want to indexBut buriedI want to index on the page that was embeddedThere seems to be a case. On the other hand, Google introduced this new mechanism to ensure the diversity of search results.

at least, indexifembedded Tags are used by sites that publish content that is supposed to be embedded in other sites / pages, and there are few sites that find utility value.

By the way, John has such a view.

A common (new, so not yet common) use case is for widgets or embedded content. Here's a special URL for embedding that I don't want to index, but I still need to allow it. For example, an embedded page used for indexing such as video embedding.

WordPress 5.9 released

latestWordPress5.9 has been released. In this version of the pageThe first image loaded, iframe's "native Lazy-load" is disabledIt has become.

Due to display speed issues, WordPress 5.5 and 5.7 supported loading native Lazy-load by default.

Images and embedded content that are not originally displayedLazy loadingBy doing so, "Lazy-load" was used to improve page speed.

However, with the conventional default settings, there was a risk of lazy loading until the image displayed from the beginning or embedding. As a result, the reading speed becomes slower. (LCP gets worse)

This specification does not mean that "the first image cannot be lazy loaded", so if you want to deliberately lazy load the first image or embedding, write "loading =" lazy "" in the tag. There is no problem.

Google publishes URL Inspection API

URL inspection tool data can be obtained using API,search Console Inspection API Has been published by Google.

This will result in

  • Index status
  • Mobile usability
  • Rich result
  • Last crawl

It is now possible to acquire data such as all at once.

However,

  • You can get up to 2,000 queries a day
  • You can get up to 600 queries per minute

Please note that there is a limitation.

summary

There was also a small update last month.

WordPress was also updated at the timing of the PC version of the user experience update, so it would be nice to review the display speed again and have a perfect system for the update.
